A single full size apple tree can produce more than 400 pounds of apples per year. If that’s not a good ROI, I don’t know what is!
There are dozens of ornamental trees and shrubs that are perfect for an edible landscape, from 100 foot pecan trees to 6 inch wintergreen

Chestnuts were one of the foundations of the Appalachian ecosystem (and #economy!) for centuries. We believe they can be again.
As a Nebraska native, I’m lucky enough to get the chance to do both prairie and woodland restoration!
Restoring our native grasslands is just as important as restoring our native woodlands.
Prairies also great at carbon sequestration, just like trees.
Native prairie grasses are the mast-producing trees of the Plains: food and shelter for wildlife (and humans, too, thanks to the bison)

Actually, I don’t bother to keep them over the winter. I bury them shallowly or pitch them in areas where I want oaks. Nature does the rest.
